“Balkan Dialogue 2023” Conference Held at the Faculty of Security Sciences

Organized by the Faculty of Security Sciences and the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund, the conference titled “Balkan Dialogue 2023” was held in Banja Luka from October 23 to 27, 2023.

Following the opening ceremony on Monday, October 23, in the conference hall of the Integra Restaurant, the event continued at the Faculty of Security Sciences.

Over thirty participants discussed current issues across six panel discussions. Attendees followed presentations by experts from the Russian Federation, Republika Srpska, BiH, and the region, including Dževad Galijašević, Yelena Guskova, and others. Speakers and participants from the Faculty of Security Sciences included Dean Prof. Dr. Predrag Ćeranić, Prof. Dr. Velibor Lalić, Asst. Prof. Dr. Saša Mićin, and student representatives from the first and second study cycles.

The conference covered several key topics, including:

  • The New Phase of Euro-Atlantic Integration of the Balkans: Reality and Perspectives;

  • The Dayton Agreement Today: An Internal View and the View from Russia;

  • National and Supranational Identity in the Balkans;

  • Challenges to Security and Stability in Central and Southeastern Europe;

  • Russia and the Balkans: The Economic Dimension of Cooperation;

  • The Importance of History and Collective Consciousness in Forming and Preserving National Identity.

The conference was attended by the Minister of Interior of Republika Srpska, Siniša Karan, the Minister for Scientific and Technological Development and Higher Education, Željko Budimir, and the Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation, Igor Kalabukhov and Leonid Darchevsky.

“Balkan Dialogue 2023” officially concluded on Thursday, October 27, after which the participants visited the National and University Library of Republika Srpska, the Center for Russian Language Studies, the Krupa na Vrbasu Monastery, and the Krupa Waterfalls.
