Vanesa Vučić, a student of the Faculty of Security Sciences of the University of Banja Luka, successfully climbed the highest peak in Turkey
From August 3 to 10, student of the Faculty of Security Sciences of the University of Banja Luka, Vanesa Vučić, successfully completed the challenging climb to the highest peak in Turkey, Mount Ararat. This expedition, which included the ascent to the top of “Ağri Daği” at a height of 5,137 meters above sea level, was a significant undertaking for our student and her team.
The mountaineering began with a flight from Belgrade to Van airport in Turkey, where they settled in a hotel and prepared for the ascent. The first day of the expedition included a hike from the village of Eli to the first base camp at an altitude of 3,200 meters. After spending the night in the camp and adjusting to the altitude, the team continued on the second day to another base camp at 4,200 meters, where they spent a day of acclimatization.
On the third day, the team returned to the first camp to better prepare for the night ascent. On the fourth day, the team reached the second base camp again, but now stayed overnight at the camp at that altitude, while preparing for the final ascent. Unfortunately, three members of the team decided to abandon further climbing for various reasons.
On the fifth day, the expedition started its final ascent at 1 am. Nine team members, including our student, reached the top of Mount Ararat at 6:50 am local time. After a short break to take photos and enjoy the view, the team made their way back to base camp, before heading back to the hotel.
The following days were reserved for exploring the city, visiting the place where Noah’s Ark is located, visiting Ishak Pasha’s palace and other sights. The student of the Faculty of Security Sciences stated that the mountain hike was a challenging, but extremely enriching experience that brought many new impressions and experiences.
She thanked the Faculty of Security Sciences for the support and sponsorship that made part of this trip possible. This expedition was not only physically challenging, but also brought unforgettable moments and experiences that will remain in the memory for a long time.
