Prof. Dr. Velibor Lalić and Assistant Professor Dr. Gojko Šetka at the Professional Course “Migration Management in the Western Balkans”
The Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP), with the financial support of the Swiss Government and the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM), organized a professional course on migration in the Western Balkans.
The professional course was held from June 24 to 27 on Jahorina.
Prof. Dr. Velibor Lalić and Assistant Professor Dr. Gojko Šetka participated in the course as lecturers at the invitation of the organizers.
Prof. Dr. Velibor Lalić held a lecture on the topic of the humanitarian and security implications of migration in the Western Balkan countries.
In his lecture, Assistant Professor Dr. Gojko Šetka focused on the capability of police systems of the Western Balkan countries to provide adequate responses to migration challenges.
Representatives of regional police agencies were presented with current challenges in the field of migration and asylum, particularly the European Union Pact on Migration and Asylum and its impact on the Western Balkans.
The seminar included discussions on the readiness of police agencies to counter these challenges, cooperation with EUROPOL in the fight against organized crime and migrant smuggling, the return and readmission of migrants to their countries of origin, as well as regional cooperation in the field of border security.
