Sixth Anniversary of the Faculty of Security Sciences Solemnly Observed
With a formal academy and the awarding of diplomas to graduated students, the Faculty of Security Sciences celebrated its sixth anniversary of successful work and development on March 6, 2023.
The program, held in the Faculty’s amphitheater, was attended by graduates, staff, students, and Police Academy trainees, as well as distinguished guests: Rector Prof. Dr. Radoslav Gajanin, the Serbian member and Chairwoman of the Presidency of BiH Željka Cvijanović, President of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska Nenad Stevandić, Minister for Scientific and Technological Development, Higher Education, and Information Society Dr. Željko Budimir, Minister of Interior Siniša Karan, former Minister Dragan Lukač, MA, Police Director Siniša Kostrešević, and numerous representatives from the fields of science, culture, and sports.
The program was opened by the Ministry of Interior Orchestra with performances of “Moja Republika” and “Gaudeamus.”
In his welcoming speech, the Dean of the Faculty of Security Sciences, Prof. Dr. Predrag Ćeranić, spoke about the Faculty’s developmental path, the necessity of its existence, its educational mission, and future growth prospects. The Dean expressed gratitude to individuals and institutions that supported the founding and development of the Faculty.
On behalf of the University of Banja Luka, Rector Prof. Dr. Radoslav Gajanin addressed the guests, emphasizing that the Faculty is vital to the University, not only due to the popularity of the “Security and Criminology” study program but also because the modern era is burdened with significant security challenges.
The Minister of Interior, Siniša Karan, noted that the Faculty is crucial for strengthening the Ministry’s personnel and highlighted ongoing efforts to establish a Secondary School of Internal Affairs. Minister Dr. Željko Budimir added that studying security is of great importance for Republika Srpska, especially given current global challenges, and praised the Faculty’s cooperation with the Faculty of Security in Belgrade.
During the ceremony, Dean Ćeranić presented awards to the best graduates: Nevena Milunić, Ljubomir Jovičić, Petra Lukić, and Marko Petrić. Plaquettes for their contribution to the Faculty’s development were awarded to Asst. Prof. Dr. Saša Mićin and Slavica Šukalo. The academy concluded with the promotion of 43 graduated students. Following the ceremony, the Faculty organized its third International Scientific Conference titled “Contemporary Security Challenges and Threats,” featuring 38 presenters, half of whom were from the Russian Federation.
