Dr. Oliver Subotić – Between Technology, Man, and Meaning

On the occasion of the lecture titled “Questions of Meaning, Truth, Freedom, and Beauty in the Era of Artificial Intelligence,” which will be held as part of the Cycle of Lectures on Man, we present the guest lecturer — Presbyter Dr. Oliver Subotić, one of the rare figures who combines a deep understanding of modern technologies with the spiritual dimensions of the human being.

Dr. Subotić was born on February 24, 1977, in Nova Varoš. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Department of Information Technology of the Faculty of Organizational Sciences at the University of Belgrade, while simultaneously studying at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology, from which he graduated in 2005. He obtained his master’s degree in 2008, and defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic “The Information-Controlled Society and Its Implications” in 2011 at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade, thereby merging the fields of technology, society, and spirituality into a unique theoretical framework.

As a lecturer and researcher, he worked at the Advanced School of Electrical Engineering in Belgrade and at the Information-Documentation Center of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology. He is the founder of the Center for the Study and Use of Modern Technologies of the Archbishopric of Belgrade-Karlovci, which represents a pioneering endeavor in the field of bridging spirituality and technological development.

He is the author of several books dealing with the relationship between man and technology, among which stand out “Biometric Identification Systems: A Critical Study,” “Man and Information Technologies: A View from an Orthodox Perspective,” “The Information-Controlled Society,” and “The Digital Challenge: Paths of Christianity in the Civilization of Binary Code.” In his latest book, “Tesla: A Spiritual Figure,” he explores the fusion of spirituality and the scientific genius of Nikola Tesla.

As a presbyter, spiritual guide, and author, Dr. Subotić addresses questions concerning humanity in the era of digitalization, critically reflecting on the role of technology in shaping modern civilization. His lectures, both academic and public, are aimed at understanding the relationship between artificial intelligence, ethics, and human freedom.

Through his work, Dr. Oliver Subotić demonstrates that contemporary questions about man cannot be reduced solely to technology or spirituality—but that the true understanding of the future lies in their mutual dialogue.
