Commemoration Held and Wreaths Laid at the Commemorative Plaque Dedicated to the Fallen Students and Employees
In honour of marking 46 years of successful work and development of the University of Banja Luka, commemoration was held on 5 November 2021 and wreaths were laid at the commemorative plaque dedicated to fallen students and employees of the University of Banja Luka who lost their lives in the past defensive and patriotic war as members of the Army of the Republic of Srpska.
Rector of the University of Banja Luka Prof. Radoslav Gajanin, PhD, says that it is our permanent duty to keep alive the memory of our 87 colleagues who gave their lives for the Republic of Srpska.
„In order to preserve their heroic deed from oblivion, this year, in cooperation with the Republic of Srpska Center for Research of War, War Crimes and Search for Missing Persons, we published the scientific monograph ’Student Brigade of the Army of the Republic of Srpska (1994-1995)’, by the author Prof. Goran Latinović, PhD.“, Rector Gajanin said.
„Courage, patriotism and chivalrous morale of fighters from among students and professors of the University of Banja Luka in difficult times for the Serbian people, should be a model for all of us, and this monograph records part of what our students and employees did for the freedom of the Republic of Srpska“, the rector of the University of Banja Luka stated.
The President of the Veterans’ Organization of the City of Banja Luka, Goran Rogić, said that even after 27 years since the Student Brigade was formed, memories are springing up.
„Those were the moments when the Republic of Srpska was in a difficult situation, attacked from all sides, and a difficult and decisive decision had to be made. The students had to be separated from their books and given a rifle to defend the Republic of Srpska and its people”, Rogić reminded.
Zora Vuković is the mother of Boris, who lost his life at the age of 18.
„He died even before his daughter was born. Our granddaughter gives us the strength and will to be active and help other families of fallen soldiers who need help.“, Vuković said.
Advisor to the Minister of Labour, War Veterans and Disabled Persons’ Protection at the Government of the Republic of Srpska General Milan Torbica gave a speech, and wreaths were also laid by Minister of Family, Youth and Sports at the Government of the Republic of Srpska Sonja Davidović, Assistant Minister of Scientific and Technological Development, Higher Education and Information Society Assist. Prof. Jelena Starčević, PhD, Advisor to the Minister of Education and Culture at the Government of the Republic of Srpska, Prof. Branka Topić Pavković, PhD, deans of the University members, representatives of the Steering Board, family members of the fallen students and employees, representatives of the Students’ Union of the Republic of Srpska and the Students’ Parliament of the University of Banja Luka and others.
